If I could give a zero star I would…

If I could give a zero star I would signed up for care.com over a year ago and canceled because I could not find anyone for their services I posted jobs and nothing came through so I canceled the service. August of this year they charged my account again! I did not sign up for their services. There was no way to get a hold of them to speak to someone about this unauthorized charge. I searched Google for a telephone number and could not find a number to call to talk about the charge that was on my account I called my bank and my bank reverse the charge. The person at the bank suggest a cancel again in their platform which I had to reset my password to get back into their platform and cancel again when I saw the charge on my statement. Again I see a reversal I was charged again by care.com my bank claims that they showed evidence that I canceled over a month after the charge. the thing is I never signed up for care.com when I was charged in august. How would I know to cancel when I did not authorize this charge. now my bank is saying I need to show proof that I did not sign up or proof that I canceled over a year ago. Now I’m being told to work directly with care.com. My account was charged without my authorization

Care.com is better than match.com

Care.com is better than match.com. I am now crazy in love with my babysitter, even left my wife for her. Known her for 8 years and she is everything. Care.com for the win. Best matchmaking site. Hands down, period! Locking the babysitter down. Thanks care.com for the ultimate hookup!

Suspended accounts, unreachable, poorly designed booking system

I’m a special Ed teacher and private care provider with a 15+ year career. Writing a review after 10+ years using this site. It started off glitchy and got even worse through the years. They are not reachable for contact even in emergencies. They have a booking system that doesn’t allow care providers or families to speak with each other until a time slot is “booked.” If after speaking, either party decides it’s not the right fit, the care provider rating drops. They recently submitted my birthday incorrectly to a Moro vehicle check vendor. Because of their own mistake it was flagged and they suspended my account losing me hundreds of dollars worth of billable client hours. If they don’t resolve their issues they will lose every reputable care provider they have.

They conveniently forget to notify you…

They conveniently forget to notify you that in order to reply to anyone, after making a posting, you’d need to sign up for a plan ;) which they’ll renew without asking you and charge your card! What a scam and a waste of time!

Deception

I created an account in what I thought to be a one month charge, in order to gift my son a housekeeping service for his birthday. Before paying for the month of service, there appeared to be at least 20+ persons who looked perfect for the job. However, after messaging every single person twice, only one person responded back to me that they would be interested. We found help elsewhere and I basically wrote off the expense as lesson learned. Then I noticed that care.com had charged me again for the following month. When I contacted customer service, I was basically told it was my fault that I didn't realize this was a subscription service and that I would be charged monthly until I cancelled the service. Somewhere along the lines, I missed this fact when I signed up for what I thought was one month. I contacted my credit card company to file a dispute and they were very aware of how Care.com operates and have received many complaints.

as a job seeker very happy so far with my paid membership. Had responses followed through. Shocked to see such bad feedback !

BEWARE

I paid for an anual subscription (over $150). After 2 weeks I found it useless for me (this review is not about care.com being useful or not, some people could find it useful), so I cancelled my subscription.
Then a nightmare begun... They keep everything on file, even after cancelling, including credit card information They will retain personal information even after requesting to be removed. My information is still there and will be until next year. This is the type of business that will retain client's personal information without any reason. Beware

*Update: let me be clear, there is no error message whatsoever, the only error is care.com business practices.

This is what the last representative told me: "if you would like to delete your credit card information, you can only remove your credit card information completely in your account, if you have a Basic membership. If you currently have a Premium subscription, you must wait until your membership is downgraded to delete your credit card information. Since the account is set to close, it will automatically be removed on 8/30/2023".

So my only option to recover my personal billing information is to downgrade my $150 subscription.
Basically, this means I need to pay YOU in order for YOU to release MY personal information and recover my privacy. Retaining a client's personal information against their will represent a serious case. This is one of the most unhealthy business practices I ever experienced.

Q:

I don't want to know anything about Care.com because Im already a member and well aware of how much theyve changed their site since I needed them last, and not in a good way! Which leads me to my question... Does anyone who has had bad luck trying to find employment through Care.com found another site to use which is better? I'd really appreciate it, I've been out of work for 4 months and need to seriously find some options.

A:

Got a text message from a private number not being from care, and he asked for me email etc. Should I be cautious with this type of inquiries?

We subscribed to this site for 30 bucks for the year and they have live updates. http://www.caretaker.org/ we found a lot of help when we had a homestead years ago and I got some gigs that were temporary too. Straight up honest folks who own the site and the people posting wanted ads are from all over the world and the USA. Posting your own ad isn't that expensive either. Some offer trade for housesitting and others pay wages. It was worth it for us. Stay away from Care.com no matter what. Check local Domestic Staffing Agencies too.

Some of the clients are looking for cheap labor through the internet for housekeeping. I usually tell the person to call me back for interview finish. Then I would tell them that I am self-employed and they would need to file a 1099 for taxes to IRS.

Q:

I thought this was free for job seekers? I want to try it before upgrading my profile, but I can't even read the messages I have received so far without being asked for my credit card?

A:

I had the same experience! Couldn't do anything with it until I pay them... i dont' trust online stuff like this with a credit card info anyway and ESPECIALLY when i first run across a site or company and don't know yet if they are truly secure and legit! Big Red Flag. Care.com doesn't care and only wants $$$$$$

A:

Stay away... just closed my account. I had previously been a member since 2012 but hadn't used the service for 3 years... just recently signed back in and was trying to apply for jobs... now it's pay for this, upgrade that, what the hell is going on, it most definitely was not like this before, this has got to be the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a long time... I can't contact or get contacted without one of us paying, what kind of crap is this... I then decided I would just do my bio over and add my email address... nope they blocked my email address out SMH lol this is crazy so I decided to just cancel my account... I had applied to at least 12-15 jobs with no luck... I don't think so because I have over 20years experience, and before when I used it a few years ago before they started all this paying crap I got contacted so much that I actually had to turn jobs down... I'm very qualified and it's sad that care.com only care about making money now days... SMH shame on you care.com... DO BETTER!

We'll care.com USED to be free for job seekers, but now there's a cost? And am not even really sure how the cost actually works.?., it's somewhat twisted, and Purposely deceitful. OK. Don't Quote me, but am gonna take a stab at how I think care. Com works. (1) You apply for a job of your choice for free (2) If family is interested they respond in kind, to set up an interview or ask for more information... about your qualifications. Here comes the twisted borderline Deviant unethical. Part ( 3). Wow OK yeah am interested in speaking /interviewing with you directly too, soooo... you hit SEND & you think your well on your way to being a working girl right?.( 4). But oops! Unfortunately the family will NOT receive your. Excited. YES!... am interested in a interview response ( 5) Here comes this itty bitty sweet LIL note that basically says in laymans terms." Give me your money (UPGRADE)... or ya won't be talking to anyone, darn! Awww! Your gonna miss this FAB job opportunity!, now it's just a cruel joke on you. The Proverbial Dangllng Carrot. We're Nurturing Ladies of the children of the World, and free to make our own decisions at will, so if you decided to give care. Com a try. Approach with caution, but if I we're you I'd find another Carrot!

Q:

Has anyone thought of filing a class action lawsuit against this scam of a company. They don't help working families, but rather steal their money.

A:

Apparently there have been several class action suits against care.com. Just search and you will find a few. Something needs to be done about this company. You would think FCC would do something about this considering Care.com continues to misrepresent their products. Here is one suit that happened in 2020. Wish I would have known about this beforehand. https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2020/07/14/care-com-settles-lawsuit-claiming-it-misrepresented-background-checks-auto-renewed-subscriptions/

Very interested here as well. Had my account permanently closed for no reason after years of hard work with special needs children and great reviews. They have a way to much power and only care about collecting money. Destroying peoples lives and careers every single day.

by Simmmons198 - February 24, 2021

A:

I definitely want to file a class action against Care.com. My daughter and I were supposed to get paid but they closed my account without any investigation at all. Took the person's word for it; whatever they may have said. Now we are down 2 months pay. Please contact me. I have been doing this for years.

As long as there are unemployed girls that desperately need a job care.com will keep luring girls into their website, get them to spend the only money they have in hopes of landing a job, they could have 13 positions available most of them bad jobs that nobody wants and 700 hundred girls applying for the same position, they count on more and more girls siging up and they keep getting rich.

by Ruiz391 - January 24, 2016

A:

Probably, but may be fairly difficult to prove. I believe there are numerous questionable/bad websites out there prepared to take your money. The last email i received from them I reported as spam.

Q:

Do I have to pay to get a job offer. Never a response but one scam

A:

No. The people needing help pay a fee. BUT, if you get accused of anything, Care.com will believe the client above the police and not only drop you, but spread the lies to others. Get yourself some business cards ( Vistaprint.com ) and pass then out. Good luck!

A:

At first, Care.com wanted me to pay a membership fee & I was looking to employ a house cleaner. Didn't & just left the site. Somehow my request got transferred to a site called Thumbtack.com. No fee to join, but also no house cleaner that would show up. Twice this happened as I thought maybe first no show was a fluke,(they had a flat tire & it had to be special ordered? Yeah, right) but second one called morning of cleaning day, crying & having a domestic dispute. Be careful.

My daughter received two attempted scam requests but then she did receive on legit baby sitting job without paying fees for care.com but using the basics. You just have to be patient and a bit lucky I think. I really do not think much of care.com site. They do no not seem to care about warning their customers of the many many scams that seem to happen daily on the site. I asked her to take her information off the site
